A CUMBRIAN rugby league has been postponed after 'significant and intensive' rain over the last few days.
Workington Town RLFC were due to play Cornwall RLFC this Sunday, February 23 in what would be the clubs first League One game of the season.
However, due to the long travel journey Cornwall have to Workington, the RFL instructed town to make a call on the waterlogged pitch today, February 21.
A decision has been made to cancel the game- with tickets standing for the rearranged date, that will be communicated in due course.
In a statement, Workington Town RLFC said: "After significant and intensive rain over the last few days, the pitch is currently water logged. As Cornwall travel at 6 am Saturday the RFL have instructed us to make the call on Sundays match today.
"As the weather forecast is for severe wind and rain we, after communication with the RFL, have made the very reluctant decision to call off the game.
"A rearranged date will be communicated in due course and all tickets bought will stand for the rearranged date."
